Adelong - Coolamon - Day 41

2km up the road is the Adelong Falls Diggings Historical Area. Darryl's Trembath ancestors had been here in the 1860s. The site has been presented beautifully, and we enjoyed the self-guided wander around the ruins.

Up the road was Wagga Wagga, where we had lunch in a local park. My cousin, who I would have loved to have visited, died 11 years ago, and I don't believe we have any remaining family, so we drove further north to Coolamon, where we walked the cemetery looking for family names. It was extremely hot and dry and unfortunately we didn't find any of the ones I was looking for. Our camping spot for the night was Lake Bethungra, which was being used as a cattle paddock. We were the only ones present, apart from the herd of 2 bulls, and lots of cows and calves. They were right where we wanted to stop, and they gradually moved away. We sat and relaxed and enjoyed the many birds, a lovely sunset and almost full-moon rise, and had a peaceful night apart from an occasional cow calling.
